Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, HLA-Z RNA is linked to patient survival in 17 of 34 cancer types, making it the most broadly survival-associated HLA-Z data layer.

The strongest signal is observed in cervical squamous cell carcinoma and endocervical adenocarcinoma (CESC), where higher HLA-Z RNA is associated with worse disease-free survival. In most high-consensus cancer types, elevated HLA-Z expression acts as an unfavorable survival marker, although some lineages such as LUAD and LIHC show a favorable association.

CESC, UVM, and BLCA are the cancer types where HLA-Z RNA most reproducibly stratifies survival.
