Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, CA5A RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 9 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of CA5A’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where CA5A RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types CA5A is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and KIRC show the opposite, repressed pattern.

THCA, KIRC, and KICH are the cancer types where CA5A tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
