Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, XIST RNA is linked to patient survival in 20 of 34 cancer types, making it the most broadly survival-associated XIST data layer compared with 7 for mutation status.

The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP), where higher XIST RNA is associated with worse overall survival. In most high-consensus cancer types, elevated XIST expression acts as an unfavorable survival marker, although some lineages such as BRCA and SKCM show a favorable association.

KIRP, KIRC, and LUSC are the cancer types where XIST RNA most reproducibly stratifies survival.
