Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, STAT5A RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 14 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of STAT5A’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA), where STAT5A RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types STAT5A is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as BLCA and LUSC show the opposite, repressed pattern.

BLCA, LIHC, and LUSC are the cancer types where STAT5A tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
