Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, SMC1A mass-spec protein is linked to patient survival in 7 of 34 cancer types, making it a survival-associated SMC1A data layer compared with 28 for mass-spec protein and 6 for mutation status.

The strongest signal is observed in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC), where higher SMC1A mass-spec protein is associated with worse overall survival. In most high-consensus cancer types, elevated SMC1A expression acts as an unfavorable survival marker, although some lineages such as LSCC and CCRCC show a favorable association.

HNSC, LSCC, and CCRCC are the cancer types where SMC1A mass-spec protein most reproducibly stratifies survival.
