Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, SLC36A4 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 11 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of SLC36A4’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC), where SLC36A4 RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types SLC36A4 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and KICH show the opposite, repressed pattern.

HNSC, LUAD, and THCA are the cancer types where SLC36A4 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
