Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, PPARGC1A RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 13 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of PPARGC1A’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.
The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), where PPARGC1A RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types PPARGC1A is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as KIRC and COAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.
KIRC, COAD, and THCA are the cancer types where PPARGC1A tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
