Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, PHOX2B RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 7 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of PHOX2B’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.
The strongest signal is observed in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD), where PHOX2B RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types PHOX2B is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as COAD and READ show the opposite, repressed pattern.
COAD, READ, and STAD are the cancer types where PHOX2B tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
