Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, OPN1LW RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 3 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of OPN1LW’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), where OPN1LW RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types OPN1LW is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as KIRC and KICH show the opposite, repressed pattern.

KIRC, KICH, and UCEC are the cancer types where OPN1LW tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
