Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, MIR133B RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 2 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of MIR133B’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), where MIR133B RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types MIR133B is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as KIRC and HNSC show the opposite, repressed pattern.

KIRC and HNSC are the cancer types where MIR133B tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
