Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, HSD11B1L RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 11 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of HSD11B1L’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), where HSD11B1L RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types HSD11B1L is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as KIRC and KICH show the opposite, repressed pattern.

KIRC, KICH, and LIHC are the cancer types where HSD11B1L tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
