Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, HLA-J RNA is linked to patient survival in 25 of 34 cancer types, making it the most broadly survival-associated HLA-J data layer compared with 1 for mutation status.

The strongest signal is observed in skin cutaneous melanoma (SKCM), where higher HLA-J RNA is associated with better disease-free survival. In most high-consensus cancer types, elevated HLA-J expression acts as an unfavorable survival marker, although some lineages such as SKCM and LIHC show a favorable association.

SKCM, UVM, and LIHC are the cancer types where HLA-J RNA most reproducibly stratifies survival.
