Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, H2AJ RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 12 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of H2AJ’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP), where H2AJ RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types H2AJ is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as UCEC and LUAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.

KIRP, LIHC, and KIRC are the cancer types where H2AJ tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
