Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, H1-1 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 7 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of H1-1’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC), where H1-1 RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types H1-1 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and KIRC show the opposite, repressed pattern.

LIHC, THCA, and HNSC are the cancer types where H1-1 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
