Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, ESD RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 13 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of ESD’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where ESD RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types ESD is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and UCEC show the opposite, repressed pattern.

THCA, KIRC, and HNSC are the cancer types where ESD tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
