Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, C13orf42 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 9 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of C13orf42’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), where C13orf42 RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types C13orf42 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as KIRC and KIRP show the opposite, repressed pattern.

KIRC, KIRP, and LUAD are the cancer types where C13orf42 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
