Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, AKR1C8P RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 12 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of AKR1C8P’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in kidney chromophobe (KICH), where AKR1C8P RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types AKR1C8P is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as KICH and BRCA show the opposite, repressed pattern.

KICH, HNSC, and BRCA are the cancer types where AKR1C8P tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
