Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, ZNF229 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 17 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of ZNF229’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.
The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), where ZNF229 RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types ZNF229 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as KIRC and COAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.
KIRC, COAD, and HNSC are the cancer types where ZNF229 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
