Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, WWOX RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 12 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of WWOX’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.
The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where WWOX RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types WWOX is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and KICH show the opposite, repressed pattern.
THCA, KICH, and COAD are the cancer types where WWOX tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
