Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, VCAN RNA is linked to patient survival in 22 of 34 cancer types, making it the most broadly survival-associated VCAN data layer compared with 12 for mutation status and 4 for mass-spec protein.
The strongest signal is observed in mesothelioma (MESO), where higher VCAN RNA is associated with worse overall survival. In most high-consensus cancer types, elevated VCAN expression acts as an unfavorable survival marker, although some lineages such as UCS and LGG show a favorable association.
MESO, STAD, and UVM are the cancer types where VCAN RNA most reproducibly stratifies survival.
