Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, USP8 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 11 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of USP8’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where USP8 RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types USP8 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and LUAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.

THCA, HNSC, and LIHC are the cancer types where USP8 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
