Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, TMEM38B RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 12 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of TMEM38B’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC), where TMEM38B RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types TMEM38B is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and KIRP show the opposite, repressed pattern.

LIHC, HNSC, and STAD are the cancer types where TMEM38B tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
