Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, TMEM106B RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 13 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of TMEM106B’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), where TMEM106B RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types TMEM106B is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as UCEC and KIRC show the opposite, repressed pattern.

LUAD, UCEC, and BRCA are the cancer types where TMEM106B tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
