Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, TFAP2A RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 14 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of TFAP2A’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal clear cell carcinoma (KIRC), where TFAP2A RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types TFAP2A is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as KIRC and KIRP show the opposite, repressed pattern.

KIRC, HNSC, and COAD are the cancer types where TFAP2A tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
