Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, SPX RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 16 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of SPX’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.
The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where SPX RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types SPX is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and KIRC show the opposite, repressed pattern.
THCA, KIRC, and BLCA are the cancer types where SPX tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
