Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, SPECC1L RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 11 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of SPECC1L’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD), where SPECC1L RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types SPECC1L is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as COAD and THCA show the opposite, repressed pattern.

COAD, THCA, and HNSC are the cancer types where SPECC1L tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
