Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, SOX21 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 9 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of SOX21’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD), where SOX21 RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types SOX21 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and STAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.

LUAD, THCA, and BLCA are the cancer types where SOX21 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
