Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, SHOX RNA is linked to patient survival in 21 of 34 cancer types, making it the most broadly survival-associated SHOX data layer compared with 6 for mutation status.
The strongest signal is observed in adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC), where higher SHOX RNA is associated with worse disease-free survival. In most high-consensus cancer types, elevated SHOX expression acts as an unfavorable survival marker, although some lineages such as MESO and KIRP show a favorable association.
ACC, KIRC, and LUAD are the cancer types where SHOX RNA most reproducibly stratifies survival.
