Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, SCN9A RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 10 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of SCN9A’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD), where SCN9A RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types SCN9A is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as COAD and READ show the opposite, repressed pattern.

COAD, KIRC, and HNSC are the cancer types where SCN9A tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
