Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, RPL21 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 12 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of RPL21’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA), where RPL21 RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types RPL21 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as BLCA and LUAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.

BLCA, KIRC, and LUAD are the cancer types where RPL21 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
