Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, PIR RNA is linked to patient survival in 27 of 34 cancer types, making it the most broadly survival-associated PIR data layer compared with 3 for mutation status and 2 for mass-spec protein.
The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP), where higher PIR RNA is associated with worse disease-free survival. In most high-consensus cancer types, elevated PIR expression acts as an unfavorable survival marker, although some lineages such as OV and LUSC show a favorable association.
KIRP, KICH, and OV are the cancer types where PIR RNA most reproducibly stratifies survival.
