Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, PAX6 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 9 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of PAX6’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where PAX6 RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types PAX6 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and LUAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.

THCA, LUAD, and HNSC are the cancer types where PAX6 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
