Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, NOD1 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 15 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of NOD1’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.
The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where NOD1 RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types NOD1 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as LUSC and BRCA show the opposite, repressed pattern.
THCA, HNSC, and KIRC are the cancer types where NOD1 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
