Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, MTREX RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 11 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of MTREX’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.
The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where MTREX RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types MTREX is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and UCEC show the opposite, repressed pattern.
THCA, LIHC, and COAD are the cancer types where MTREX tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
