Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, MKRN9P RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 7 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of MKRN9P’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where MKRN9P RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types MKRN9P is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as KICH show the opposite, repressed pattern.

THCA, COAD, and HNSC are the cancer types where MKRN9P tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
