Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, MEF2C RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 14 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of MEF2C’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in bladder urothelial carcinoma (BLCA), where MEF2C RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types MEF2C is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as BLCA and COAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.

BLCA, KIRC, and COAD are the cancer types where MEF2C tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
