Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, HOXB13 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 14 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of HOXB13’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.
The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP), where HOXB13 RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types HOXB13 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as READ and THCA show the opposite, repressed pattern.
KIRP, BRCA, and STAD are the cancer types where HOXB13 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
