Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, HMGB1P41 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 7 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of HMGB1P41’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in cholangiocarcinoma (CHOL), where HMGB1P41 RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types HMGB1P41 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and KICH show the opposite, repressed pattern.

CHOL, THCA, and PRAD are the cancer types where HMGB1P41 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
