Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, HLA-DMA mass-spec protein differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 6 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of HLA-DMA’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC), where HLA-DMA mass-spec protein is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types HLA-DMA is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as LSCC and LUAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.

CCRCC, HNSC, and LSCC are the cancer types where HLA-DMA tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
