Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, DEFB131A RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 4 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of DEFB131A’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where DEFB131A RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types DEFB131A is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and PRAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.

THCA, PRAD, and STAD are the cancer types where DEFB131A tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
