Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, C9orf16 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 16 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of C9orf16’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where C9orf16 RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types C9orf16 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as KIRC and KICH show the opposite, repressed pattern.

THCA, COAD, and LIHC are the cancer types where C9orf16 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
