Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, C4orf17 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 7 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of C4orf17’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP), where C4orf17 RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types C4orf17 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as BLCA and STAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.

KIRP, THCA, and LUSC are the cancer types where C4orf17 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
