Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, C22orf39 RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 14 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of C22orf39’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in thyroid carcinoma (THCA), where C22orf39 RNA is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types C22orf39 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and LUAD show the opposite, repressed pattern.

THCA, LUAD, and LIHC are the cancer types where C22orf39 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
