Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, C17orf97 mass-spec protein differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 2 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of C17orf97’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC), where C17orf97 mass-spec protein is repressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types C17orf97 is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as CCRCC and PDAC show the opposite, repressed pattern.

CCRCC and PDAC are the cancer types where C17orf97 tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
