Across TCGA pan-cancer cohorts, BCL11A RNA differs between tumor and matched normal tissue in 11 of 18 cancer types tested, making tumor–normal expression one of BCL11A’s most consistent transcriptional readouts.

The strongest signal is observed in kidney renal papillary cell carcinoma (KIRP), where BCL11A RNA is more highly expressed in tumor relative to normal tissue. In most cancer types BCL11A is over-expressed in tumor, although a few such as THCA and BRCA show the opposite, repressed pattern.

KIRP, KIRC, and COAD are the cancer types where BCL11A tumor–normal differential expression is most reproducible.
